What is email marketing?
Basically email marketing is sending emails to your consumers containing commercial information and advertisement about your product and services. Or Marketing via email is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial messages. It is also known as bulk emailing, mass emailing, email advertising, email promotions, email ad campaigns, emailing service, email ad promotions, web emailing, e-mailing, e-mail marketing, opt-in emailing, email web advertising, direct email marketing, email marketing solution, email marketing campaign, email promotion internet marketing. Email marketing is one of the most successful methods of marketing ever developed. By far it is one of the most effective and inexpensive methods of advertising available to you. If you have an email marketing strategy and if that strategy works then mail marketing is very affordable and effective. Because email is much cheaper than most other forms of communication it ranks high in popularity. This form of marketing lets you deliver your message to your potential market.
How to get email list?
Now that you have decided to do email marketing, just how do you go about getting your e-mail list. Do you grow or build your list or should you go out and buy a list. Buy a list and have an instant list of e-mails all ready to go. But avoid this method. Another method is renting a list. The main thing to understand here, you never get to see the email, the list owner is sending an email for you. You basically pay a rental fee for using the list. You can also build your own list by 1) giving PPC ads and as people click your PPC ad, they can sign up to receive more information or 2) newsletter sign up is another method to steadily build your list or 3) using your business card to hand out to increase contact and mention your website and put a note that sign up for more information.
How to send emails or newsletter?
Once you get the list built or at least in the process of building, you are going to want to have specialized e-mail marketing software to make all this happen. Do not be sending e-mails from your Outlook Express or personal e-mail system. There are specialized software to send email marketing mails using those even you can schedule the time to send mails. Emailing software has feature and track the activity takes place on emails sent and give you reports.
What are the benefits of email marketing?
There are many benefits of email marketing over other advertising methods like It’s very inexpensive and have direct reach to customers and present written, descriptive and graphical and even animated information, building a relationship with the customers and provide them useful information. From online shopping perspective these are other benefits: Increase Your Sales Conversion, Generate Repeat Sales, Up-sell and Cross-sell Products and Services, Gain Valuable Feedback from your Visitors, Drive Web Users to Make Offline Purchases.
Tell me some tips for good email marketing?
Make it easy to unsubscribe. Legal issues require you to make an easily found unsubscribe message. You have ten days to honor if a person wants to be out of your list. If you are worried about losing some of your circulation or readers, then give them an option to receive less e-mail from you or maybe even an option to change email addresses. They may now want there e-mail to come to a new address.
Send subject matter that is applicable to what they have signed up for. If you start sending information that is not related to their interest, you can expect to start getting a high increase in people opting out. Stick to the subject or you will lose the confidence of your subscribers.
Do not add people to your list that have not subscribed. If a person has not expressed interest in your e-mail, then don't send them any information. This is called spam and now you become one of the least desired e-mailers. And you may also run into legal issues. Don't do it.
Whenever you write an email, always format the lines so that they`re 65 characters, or less, across. To do this, you may need to do a "hard return" by hitting "Enter" at the end of the line. The first thing to remember is that looking at a computer screen for a long time causes EYE FATIGUE for many readers. The shorter span of characters across the screen makes reading easier and more appealing to the recipient of your email message.
On the Internet, email messages written in all caps are considered yelling. It`s okay to write some sentences and some words in all caps, but don`t go overboard. Should I use text or HTML email version?
Would you be influenced by an email selling you something that had noticeable spelling and grammar mistakes? Sure you would...and the influence would be negative, not positive!
Do I need web designer for designing my email?
Yes, having designed your mail by good designer will give you extra edge. Now that organizations are adopting HTML email, a whole new world is opening up for the talented designer. To a greater extent we can begin to apply many of the rules we've learnt from web site design. While there'll always be a minority who'll hate logos, color and animation, used skillfully, to most these are techniques that can really engage and in turn increase response rates. As with web design we need to consider how to convey the message with the right mix of graphics, text and navigation. It's doubtful if email will ever be considered art, although it should be, nevertheless imaginative design will always win out over bland text only variants. Some of this obviously depends upon the audience. Subscribers to a particular update bulletin will not necessarily need all the bells and whistles. But as with other forms of marketing, where people need eye-catching enticements, good design is essential.
How it can be useful to my business?
E-mail Marketing is very affordable and has one of the highest ROI (return on investment). It is also a very easy and trusted way to get your brand name to your customers if you do it correctly. Many people believe that marketing using e-mail is unresponsive and over and finished with. The truth is, marketing via e-mail is stronger than ever and alive. You send information and updates about your product and have direct access to your customers unlike using website where they have to come and visit it. You get very affordable means of advertising with direct access to your customer and increase your sales by repeat or new customers.
Are my sent emails are getting SPAM?
If you are using buying or renting emails list there may be possibilities that your mails are getting filtering out as SPAM while reaching instead of inbox. But you can avoid this situation by using opt-in or double opt-in list. If you're not careful about how you write and format your marketing emails, you may discover that a very large percentage are not even reaching their destination. They're flagged and discarded by various Spam filters. Even if you get your email through the filters, you still need to worry about your readers accidentally flagging your email as Spam. Follow these steps while writing mails will make sure it does not flagged by filters.
1. Use a double opt-in list mailing list.
2.
Select your subject line with care. When building new relationship you are dependent on opening of your mail based on subject line. The point is look your email legitimate.
3.
Clarify your relationship with the reader. You want to remind them why you're sending the email. Explain to them that they subscribed to your mailing list for whatever reason, or that they recently purchased a product from your company, and so on.
4.
Follow the CAN-SPAM laws. These laws apply to all commercial email and include items such as containing an unsubscribe link in every email as well as including a physical mailing address of the person or company sending the email. It is a good idea to review these laws and become accustomed to writing your emails based around them.
Should I use text or HTML email version?
HTML emails give better presentation over textual emails. Textual emails look blatant. But if your users can not receive HTML mails as not every email program handle HTML mails you can upload emails on website and send them URLs. You could consider publishing two versions of your newsletter a text version and an HTML version (of course this is more work for you). When people subscribe to your newsletter, they will need to choose which version to subscribe to (if you're mailing list script can't handle this, simply set up two different mailing lists one for the text version, one for the HTML version). You could just publish the newsletter only as HTML. For people who can't receive HTML emails, you could post a copy of the HTML newsletter on your web site (which they can view with their web browser), and simply send them a notification when new editions are available to view online. You could just publish the newsletter only as plain text. For any bits that need fancy formatting, etc., give the information on your web site, and tell them the URL in your newsletter.
